This course is aimed at three different levels of project managers and serves students at all three levels:

  1. Those new to project management:An introduction to the project management concepts to enable you to get started and to help you determine if you want to continue in this field
  2. Those with some experience:An aid to learn how to use project management tools to avoid problems that you may be currently facing and to better deal with issues as they surface
  3. Those with lots of experience:An aid to better learn the vocabulary of PMI®; fill in some gaps and see some new interfaces

  • Link project goals and objectives to clear compelling stakeholder needs
  • Develop work breakdown structures

Managing Projects teaches the fundamentals, tools and concepts of project management. It discusses the role of the project manager as well as the team member in managing project. It teaches the project manager to manage each stage of the project lifecycle, work within organisational cost constraints and to set goals tied directly to stakeholder needs. This course has been updated to reflect the PMBOK® 2000 changes.

You'll learn project management skills through case studies, hands-on exercises, and a broad array of practical experiences than can immediately be applied to your job, This approach yields a comprehensive project management experience, including the early stages of defining project requirements, developing work breakdown structures, project change control, and closeout.

As the ESI Project Management Professional Development Program's flagship course, Managing Projects opens the door to more efficient project implementation. Each unit within this course provides a foundation for the six other core courses in the project management curriculum. Participants are able to build upon this foundation and enhance their skills through further ESI electives.

Project Initiation: Understanding the roles of senior management Describe quantitative and qualitative methods that senior managers utilise in selecting projects Making project selection decisions Defining project requirements Distinguishing between functional and technical requirements and understanding the role of both Creating a project charter.
  3. Project Planning - the Heart of Project Management: Working with the project leadership team Scope planning through the use of a WBS Estimating Schedule planning Cost planning Resource planning Risk planning Procurement planning Other planning processes
  4. Understanding Project Implementation - Execution and Control: Setting and interpreting baselines Developing the project team Managing team performance and stakeholder expectations Managing change Managing risk Assessing project performance: monitoring and evaluation Performance reporting
  5. Project Closeout: Verifying scope and gaining customer acceptance Managing administrative and contract closure Completing and interpreting lessons learned from the project Communicating project successes
